Personal Development Focus

This week students have been continuing to consider how we treat others in and outside of school. Last week was Anti-Bullying Week and Mr Daly has led a powerful assembly focussing on how victims of bullying can reach out, and who they can reach out to. We have continued to emphasise the importance of being an upstander to acts of cruelty, and create allyship amongst our students to fight against all types of bullying.

Next week we are privileged to have Mr Abedin leading an assembly raising awareness of Islamophobia. Mr Abedin, our Head of Computing, is one of our Muslim teachers and will be speaking to students about the meaning of Islamophobia, and why we need to recognise it and speak up, if and when we see it occurring. Mr Abedin has also prepared a virtual Q&A session, which students will see in their TutorPD session following the assembly. Students were asked to write down any question that they would like to ask a practising Muslim. These questions were collated and Mr Abedin will record his answers on video for the students to watch. It promises to be a fascinating experience for Muslim and non-Muslim students alike! We are very proud to have a growing number of Muslim students in the St Ivo community, and we hope these activities will help us all to celebrate the rich culture of Islam.

Finally we are very excited to be welcoming 40 parents into school on Wednesday 1st December at 5pm in the school canteen to discuss all things PD. Thank you to everyone who filled in the parent survey, and apologies if we had reached capacity before you were able to book your place. But there will be many more opportunities for you to join us in the future. We hope this will be just the beginning of a close partnership between the PD department and the parents of our students, in ensuring that our curriculum is designed to support the specific needs of our student body.

As always, should you have any questions regarding PD at St Ivo Academy, please do contact

Welcome from the Principal

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to our website and to St Ivo Academy. We are an inclusive 11-18 academy which for the last 60 years has been privileged to serve the community of St Ives and its surrounding area.

Our vision for St Ivo Academy is:

  • We believe that all students, regardless of their starting point, should be guided and supported to develop the academic, social and moral understanding and behaviours to be successful and happy in their future.
  • As a community of students, staff and parents/carers we are respectful, polite and courteous to each other in all that we do.

The values we hold as being central to this are:

  • Respect
  • Resilience

Our ethos is, very simply:

  • Work hard, be kind

I believe that St Ivo Academy offers a unique mix of academic success and care for the individual. It is a great place to learn and to work. I am very proud to lead a school which is constantly evolving and adapting to provide the best education for the young people of St Ives.

You will find key information about the school on this site or for more regular updates use our Facebook, Instagram or Twitter accounts. You are, of course, very welcome to arrange a visit to see for yourself what St Ivo Academy has to offer.
