Dear Parent/ Carer
This week has been another busy one for the school, but Thursday saw most of the action!
It was great to see everyone at the sixth form open evening on Thursday, as our Year 11 students, and others from neighbouring schools, came along to investigate their options for studying with us. For our current Year 13 students, UCAS applications are starting to be sent. The first two to Cambridge (Engineering and Law) have been sent with loads more planned for the forthcoming week.
We would also like to say a massive thank you to all students and staff who supported Hello Yellow in aid of YoungMinds and World Mental Health Day during the day on Thursday. In particular though, I would like to publicly thank Mrs Brasher for all her hard work in bringing this together and inspiring everyone to go above and beyond in making this day so successful.
Our school looked amazing with many decorations and staff dressing and accessorising in yellow. We added several photos from the day to give you a sense of what it was like. We truly embraced the yellow theme! We managed to raise just over £320 so far, with more to come in over the next week. Thank you for your support with this.
The rest of this week’s newsletter cover the flu vaccinations on Wednesday, an introduction to our new careers lead, job opportunities and updates about buying uniform and PE kit in wet and cold weather.
Flu vaccinations
A team from Vaccination UK visited the school on Wednesday to administer flu vaccinations to Years 7, 8 and 9. Unfortunately only three nurses were present for the morning sessions, this did mean that a few Year 7s missed their break time. Senior staff telephoned Vaccination UK to make them aware of the situation and a fourth nurse was sent for the afternoon.
We are aware of a few students in Years 7, 8 and 9 who have consent for the vaccination but did not receive this. In these cases, please let your child know to come to the main hall at the start of period 4 next Wednesday 16 October 2024; Years 10 and 11 will also be vaccinated on this date.
Year 7 singing
We have been impressed with Year 7 and their vocal skills during their singing sessions over the last couple of weeks. We are very pleased with their progress with the song lyrics. Keep up the good work, Year 7!
Careers and work-related learning update
This week our new careers and work-related learning lead started working at the academy. Mrs Parks is very experienced having delivered the role in another school for many years. Over the next few days Mrs Parks will be meeting as many students as possible alongside starting to organise large events such as the careers event for all year groups in January and an opportunity for our Year 11 students to meet representatives from local Post 16 providers on Thursday 17 October. This promises to be a very useful opportunity for these students to widen their understanding of what their options are for Post 16 study, and the range of establishments they could attend.
As well as ensuring St Ivo students have a range of stimulating and useful learning opportunities over the coming months, Mrs Parks will also be conducting careers interviews with Year 11, 12 and 13 students. This will be a great opportunity for these students to gain information and guidance on the ‘next steps’ available to them so they can make informed decisions. Every student from those year groups will receive one meeting over the academic year, with those that require extra support being offered more as appropriate.
If you have any questions now or at any point in the future, Mrs Parks can be contacted on the following email: helen.parks@astreastivo.org

Price & Buckland uniform
The remaining items of Price & Buckland uniform and PE kit remaining available to purchase on MCAS. Please note that the next window for collections from school will be Monday 18 to Friday 22 November 2024, at breaktimes in P26.
PE uniform and wet weather
As the weather is starting to get wetter and colder, we have reminded students of the option to get changed from their PE uniform into their school uniform after their PE lesson (this might be especially useful for students if they have a rugby lesson on wet grass). Students do not need to get changed after their PE lesson, but if they do want to get changed then PE staff will allow time at the end of the lesson for this to happen.
Any issues, please contact Mr Farr, head of PE by email: dominic.farr@astreastivo.org
Have a wonderful weekend.
Yours faithfully
Tony Meneaugh
Principal
