Dear Parents/ Carers
This week has seen a great variety of events happen at the St Ivo Academy. One of the highlights was definitely the Careers and Aspirations Fair – thank you to Mr Wilson and Mrs Parks for organising this, and for all the businesses and organisations who volunteered their time to support our students. More information about this can be found below.
RiverPorter
Last week I had the fantastic opportunity to talk to RiverPorter following on from the town council meeting report and my subsequent newsletter. I want to reiterate my thanks to the team for coming up to the school and listening to our point of view.
This is the first podcast I’ve ever done, and it was completed in one take, so listening back is always interesting! You can find the recording on their podcast website: Riverport Radio Podcast
Assessments and mocks
This week saw the start of Year 7-9 assessments. Thank you to all the parents and carers who have been supporting these students with their revision at home. Teachers have reported that students have taken to these in a really mature and sensible manner – well done to everyone.
The journey towards the next set of Year 11 mocks began today with the modern foreign languages speaking tests, continuing next week. Bonne chance to everyone involved!
We have a number of lunch and after-school intervention sessions happening each week, a full list is provided below. Please suggest to your child to talk to their subject teacher to get more information about where these are running. More will be coming on-line in future weeks.

English Football League
Finally, we have to celebrate the achievement of our under 13 girls’ football team this week. Although they came second in the final, this was the regional final of the English football league having won the county round. Having won the county round, they had the opportunity to represent Peterborough in full Peterborough United kit against other regional teams. Well done to Mrs Nisbet and the team for getting so far!
Yours faithfully
Tony Meneaugh
Principal
Careers and Aspirations Fair
Yesterday we welcomed over 30 employers, higher and further education and training providers to our Careers and Aspirations Fair held at the Burgess Hall.
Students from Years 8-13 attended and had the opportunity to visit and engage with all of the exhibitors. We were delighted that all of our visitors were able to offer an interactive experience for the students enabling them to truly immerse themselves in the Careers Fair. From putting out at Acushnet’s golf challenge, shooting hoops at the Sealed Air Cryovac stand, assembling as many pipes and fittings as possible in 1 minute with the Oxford Energy Academy, operating a mini digger at Breheny and wearing Cambridge Regional Colleges virtual reality headset, students were able to learn about these organisations and pick up some prizes and freebies along the way.
Thank you to all of our exhibitors, the day was a huge success, and we couldn’t have done it without you!
Young Golfers
Later this term is the Cambridgeshire Schools County Golf Championship being held at St Ives Golf Club on Monday 17 March. If your child plays golf regularly and has an official handicap (maximum of 28 for boys & 36 for girls) and would like the opportunity to play in the event, please contact Mr Cook directly (paul.cook@astreastivo.org) with details of your child’s name, handicap, affiliated golf club and WHS number.
Sixth Form Careers Speakers
In the sixth form we like to expose our students to as many different career options as possible. One way in which do this is by having delegates give presentations to the students either through an assembly, or virtually on Teams, talking about their education pathway and their current job role.
We are always looking for more people from a range of vocations to talk to students about their role(s). If any parents/carers would like to help and talk to our sixth form about their career path we would be incredibly grateful.
If you are interested, please contact Pat Braybrook, Head of Sixth Form at pat.braybrook@astreastivo.org
Many thanks for your consideration.
Electric scooters
We have been made aware of some students using electric scooters to travel to and from school. Please note that the use of e-scooters on public roads and paths is illegal, and presents a safety hazard.
For more information please visit Advice on e-scooter usage | Police.uk
