Newsletter 31 January 2025

Dear Parents/ Carers

We approach the end of the first week of mock exams for year 11 – well done to everyone for their amazing approach to this! Interventions after school, and some during lunchtime, are still running during the mock period for students. We’re going to publish the timetable, and where appropriate revision topics covered, in the newsletter each week: Weekly Interventions 20250203

The rest of this week’s newsletter covers the forthcoming Year 9 parents’/ carers’ evening, other sixth form news, the maths-in-action trip, the Year 10 Shaping Futures programme and information about the Cambridgeshire holiday voucher scheme as February half-term approaches.

Yours faithfully

Tony Meneaugh
Principal

Year 9 parents’/ carers’ evening

Parents’ evening will be held online on Thursday 13 February from 4.00pm-7.30pm.

Appointments can be booked via SchoolCloud – St Ivo Academy. Booking open on Monday 3 February January at 6am, and will close at 8am on Thursday 13 February. If you have any difficulties using the online platform, please contact the school office.

If you wish to book an appointment for dance, please note that Miss McAdam teaches every student in year 9. We therefore kindly ask that you only book an appointment to see her if your child has particular interest in dance for further study.

On the evening itself, please once again log on to School Cloud then click the “join video appointments” button. The system will then load your appointments, please see https://support.parentseveningsystem.co.uk/article/801-video-parents-how-to-attend-appointments-over-video-call for further information. You can use most phones, tablets, laptops etc to access this service. Please note that in order for the evening to run to time, calls will automatically cut off at the given end time (there will be a countdown on your screen).

Following on from parents’ evening, the Year 9 curriculum evening will take place on Thursday 13 March, starting at 6pm in the school hall. The curriculum evening gives Year 9 families the opportunity to visit subject areas and hear from senior staff about the Year 9 into 10 preferences process.

Sixth form news

Sixth form apprenticeships fair

Students who have expressed an interest in learning more about apprenticeships in Years 12 and 13 have been invited to attend a visit to the apprenticeships fair at IVC on Thursday 13 February. Parents and carers of these students have been sent the visit letter on MCAS and a Microsoft form to complete. The visit is fully funded so does not incur a cost. The deadline for Microsoft form completion is Wednesday 5 February at 12pm.

UCAS applications

Wednesday 29 January was the deadline for university applications. This year we are very pleased to announce that 70 students from Year 13 completed their applications. Many have already received offers, this includes places at Oxbridge and a number of Russell Group universities. Good luck to all students with your applications, we look forward to seeing more offers come in!

Maths-in-action trip

Year 10 students attended Maths in Action earlier this week at the University of Warwick. From the probability of being struck by lighting, statistics in journalism, the maths behind Torus rings, to learning about the enormity of the universe, students gained insights into various areas of maths.

Year 10 shaping futures programme

As previously communicated, Shaping Futures will be replacing traditional work experience for Year 10 students. Below is the timeline for this programme:

Thursday 6 February – Students can now apply for ‘mock’ jobs through Morrisby. Applications need to be complete by 24 February

Monday 3 March – Students will attend mock 1-1 interviews and an assessment centre style interview in school on this day.

10 – 14 March – During this week students will take part in their first group mentoring session in school which will be approximately one hour

28 April – 2 May – During this week students will take part in their second group mentoring session in school which will be approximately one hour

2 – 6 June – During this week students will take part in their third and final group mentoring session in school which will be approximately one hour

7 – 11 July – During this week students will attend a workplace visit and a showcase event in school in Friday morning.

Times and locations of all activities will be communicated directly with students.

All students are expected to take part in the Shaping Futures programme. However, as we transition away from traditional work experience placements, we understand that some students may have already secured one. In such cases, exceptions will be made. The placement must occur during the week of 7 July, and all signed paperwork must be submitted by 21 February to allow sufficient time for essential health & safety and safeguarding checks. Please do not hesitate to contact Helen Parks, Careers Leader & Adviser if you have any questions helen.parks@astreastivo.org
