St Ivo Academy unveil new Sixth Form plans

++ Cambridgeshire school offers students ‘high quality learning environment’ ++

Students, parents and carers at St Ivo Academy are being asked to offer their thoughts about plans to revamp and refurbish the current Sixth Form centre. The school in St Ives has asked its students what they would like to see in a proposed new centre to study A level, BTEC and other vocational courses at the Academy after finishing GCSEs.

The new centre will have a more ‘college or university-like feel’, whilst offering the familiar benefits at the school, with caring staff, and lots of opportunities for students. There will be new spaces for students to socialise and study, offering a high-quality learning environment for the community of St Ives.

St Ivo is guaranteeing students that courses they choose will run, as long as the school is their first or second choice and have made it easier for students to study the combinations of subjects they want.

Year 13 students Nathan said:

“I really like the facilities and sport here, so there’s a load of clubs and activities for us in the Sixth form. Some we have started and it’s a great way to get involved in the Sixth Form.”

I’ve sent off my university application and that’s because of all the support I’ve got from teachers.”

Maranatha said:

“I came to St Ivo from another school because of the range of courses and the support that I receive.

I like the Understudy, it’s a nice quiet space for us to study, and then when we’re done, we  go upstairs to the common room and chill out on the sofas.”

Year 12 student Annabel said:

“I stayed at Sixth Form because I already knew all the teachers and they knew how I like to learn and they’re really adaptable to how everyone in the class likes to learn. You get lots of support from heads of years, you’re independent and it’s really great.”

Sam, a Year 12 student said:

”If you’re local it’s better than travelling all that way into Cambridge, and you’re still getting the same education that you’d get if you went there and the students really have a voice.

“It’s much more relaxed, the teachers let you work out things independently.”

Tony Meneaugh, Principal at St Ivo Academy said:

“I am so excited to share these plans with students – both current and prospective ones – and their parents and carers. Students at our Sixth Form do very well, taking up apprenticeships or going on to study at university.

Please do have a look at the plans that will be up in school and let us know what you think. Our vision is for an engaging educational space that prepares our students today and for their futures.”

Rowena Hackwood, CEO for Astrea Academy Trust said:

“This is a really crucial time for us to invest in St Ivo and I am very committed to building an excellent provision for our students, both present and in the future.

“We know it is essential to ensure that St Ivo has a modernised Sixth Form that staff, students and local community can invest in and be really proud of. I am delighted we are able to fund this project.”

Prospective students in Cambridgeshire have until the 14th January 2025 to apply for Sixth Form via My Choice 16 www.mychoice16.co.uk.
