A-Level Physics (AQA 7408)
Course Overview
Are you inquisitive and do you enjoy solving problems using mathematics? Then physics is a possibility for you.
A-level physics is a course that aims to explain why everything works; from a Ferris wheel at a fairground to the quantum theory surrounding the gold leaf electroscope.
The course comprises a series of modules that build upon work studied at GCSE. The aim is to gain a deeper understanding of those topics and develop high-level problem-solving skills. There is a practical element of the course which requires the completion of 12 experiments that are recorded and analysed in a lab book. Complementary subjects include chemistry, biology and geography. Mathematics is strongly recommended.
To have the widest possible choice in future, especially if you wish to study science at university, you should consider taking two science A-levels. Most university courses count mathematics, geography or psychology as a second science.
You will study:
- Measurements and their errors
- Particles and radiation
- Waves
- Mechanics and materials
- Electricity
- Further mechanics and thermal physics (A-level only)
- Fields and their consequences (A-level only)
- Nuclear physics (A-level only)

“A fascinating subject that I am going to continue with into university.”
