Message from our Principal
This week I would like to draw your attention to a letter I have sent to all families this afternoon informing you about a change in our approach to student mobile phone use around the site.
This is in light of recent government announcements about young people’s use of mobile phones, and also our knowledge of the dangers on social media and our wish for St Ivo to be a safe enrironment where students are free from worries caused by online environments. If you wish to read this, please click here.
We are not enacting a ‘phone ban’ at this time, but the messaging from the government may mean that we review our position on this going forwards.
Currently we ask students to put their mobile phones away as they walk through the gate to enter site. From after half term we will be mirroring the end of the school day to this. We will also be asking student to keep their phones in their bags and not their pockets. More details are contained in my letter, along with a wider rationale for this mid-year update.
To support our families, our next Parental Engagement event will be run by members of our safeguarding team who will share information of how parents and carers can support children with the safe use of mobile phones, and share some of the knowledge we have gained from working with with young people and wider professional agencies. I hope that can be a useful and informative evening and I will share the date for that shortly.
In other news, Year 11 are entering their final week of mock exams next week – well done to them!
