Message from our Principal
“The end of each half term is when we draw our winners of our Golden Ticket draw. Students have the opportunity in every lesson to win a Golden Ticket which is given to the student who goes above and beyond in that lesson. While Golden tickets are worth 5 house points, students can also win additional house points in lessons and throughout the school day, which contribute to students wining house colours and badges.
The more Golden Tickets you win each half term, the more opportunities you have to win. Mr Varey drew the winning tickets from the huge box full of tickets, which was filmed and shown in forms. A massive well done to all of the students whose names were drawn who win a £20 Amazon voucher. We have systems which allow us to praise students for hard work and effort in lessons, as well as when they demonstrate our school values such as showing responsibility in looking after their friends or picking up litter. These are the behaviours that we want our young people to develop and it is through our rewards systems that we can reinforce the positive nature of these attributes.
Our school values of tenacity will certainly be demonstrated by all of our students and staff on the Ski Trip which is leaving tomorrow, please check our social media pages to see how they are getting on!
I wish everyone a restful half term, and we will see students back in school on Tuesday 24th February (week B)“

Principal
General Updates
Absence Notifications
We are writing to remind all parents and carers of our procedures around attendance and absence. Good attendance is essential for academic progress and success, and your ongoing support in ensuring that your child attends school every day, unless they are too unwell or for another authorised reason, is greatly appreciated.
To support both the smooth running of the school day and the safeguarding of all students, please carefully note the following points:
The School Day
Our school gates are open from 8.25am each day. All students are expected to be in school by 8.30am for Morning Welcome and Form Time. Any students arriving after this time may receive a detention for late arrival.
Reporting Absences
On the day your child is going to be absent from school, please inform us by 8.30am by emailing attendance@astreastivo.org. When doing so, please remember to include:
- Your child’s full name
- Their tutor group
- A clear and detailed reason for the absence
Even if you have previously contacted us, this information should be provided each day unless otherwise advised.
In line with NHS guidance, children can usually attend school if they have mild symptoms such as a sore throat, headache, or slight cold. They should only be kept at home if they are seriously unwell, have a high temperature and are not well enough to attend, or if a healthcare professional has advised that they remain off school. For more specific advice, you can refer to the NHS ‘Is my child too ill for school?” guidance, which offers helpful advice for parents and carers.
Year 11 sixth form application meetings
Now that the mock exams have finished for year 11, after half term we will begin the sixth form application meetings. These meeting will take place with either Mr Braybrook or Mrs Webster during the first 2 weeks back.
All students who made an application will receive a slip which will include when their meeting is and who it is with. Students will meet in the resource centre at their organised time. It is not an interview and students are not required to prepare anything for it, it is just a discussion about their application and choices made. Meetings will only last a few minutes, so not to impact on curriculum time too heavily.
Following the completion of all meetings, offer letters will be distributed, including details of the summer induction programme.
We look forward to meeting with all applicants after half term.
Mr Braybrook
Head of Sixth Form
Student sign on page for Carousel Learning
You will be aware that many subjects use the platform Carousel Learning. Over half term Carousel will move to a student sign on page. This means students can log on via this link. https://student.carousel-learning.com/login Enter your school name (St Ivo Academy). Students should press the ‘Sign in with Microsoft’ and sign in with their school email and password. Students can then see their quizzes and study packs using the tabs at the top of the page. The advantage is that students can revisit past quizzes and take them again to check their understanding. Students can also opt to revise the topic on Carousel before they take the quiz.
There is a student guide here
