Message from our Principal
It has been a highly productive INSET Day here at St Ivo, with all teachers across all departments focused on what we call the ‘Sprint Plan’ for Year 11 and Year 13 students as they head into these final weeks of lessons and learning before their exams start. My talk this morning to staff was focused on the importance of outcomes for young people, as they represent choice for the future and open doors to lots of opportunities. Significantly, not getting the outcomes they need means that doors could be closed to them for post-16 and post-18 options, and could change their life path. We take our responsibility to ensure all options and doors remain open for our young people seriously, and today all departments have spent time reviewing mock grades and developing teaching plans and strategies which aim to ensure students can maximise their progress between now and the real exams.
Thank you to all parents of these students for your support at this time; it is really tricky, but please know that we are here to support too. One piece of advice I would like to offer is to ensure your children spend as much time in front of a teacher as they can: in school day to day, attending period 6 sessions, and any other revision sessions they are invited to, including our Easter Revision Sessions, which are taking place in the first week of the Easter break.
At the end of this term, we will say goodbye to some key staff. Firstly, Mr Lake, who is our Lead for Sixth Form Social Sciences and has been at St Ivo for 2 years. We are also saying goodbye to Mrs Warriner, who is my Vice Principal for Quality of Education and has also taught in and led the History department over the decade she has been at the school. She has been particularly brilliant to work with in my first term at St Ivo, and I will be very sad to see her leave for her new role as Vice Principal in a Virtual School. We are also saying goodbye to Rob Chambers, who has been at the school since he was a trainee, spending around 25 years at St Ivo as a trainee teacher and then Head of Department, and is now working as the National Lead for Geography for the Trust.
I’m sure there are many readers of this newsletter who may have been taught by Mr Chambers themselves during their own time at St Ivo and will remember those Geography lessons fondly; it is a mark of the impact that a teacher has on the young people they teach.
As a staff, we wish them all the best of luck in their next steps after they leave St Ivo.

Year 11 mock exam results
Attitude not aptitude determines altitude! ![]()
Yesterday our Year 11s received their mock exam results, a huge milestone on the journey to the real thing. Mocks aren’t just about grades, they’re about learning, adapting, and building confidence under real exam conditions.
Every result is a stepping stone. Keep pushing, keep improving, and most importantly, keep believing in yourself.
We’re proud of you all!

Harry thrives in Golf competition
On Monday 16th March a group of students (Yr 9 & 11) from St Ivo competed in the annual Cambridgeshire schools Golf Championship. Within a field of 60 competitors they battled in challenging weather conditions. Well done in particular to Harry Burgess in Year 9 who shot a gross 78 off the championship tees to secure the under 16 title. He now moves on to the midland championships in the summer. We wish him luck and hope he can make it all the way to the national finals.
Make Your Mark: Inspiring Future Careers in the Built Environment
On Thursday, 15 of our Year 9 students had the exciting opportunity to attend the Make Your Mark event at Alconbury Weald, hosted by Urban & Civic. The event was designed to inspire young women to explore the wide range of careers available in development, construction, and the built environment.
Students took part in a variety of engaging activities throughout the day. They designed their own green spaces, thinking carefully about sustainability and how to create places that are both practical, attractive and environmentally friendly. They also had the chance to try their hand at bricklaying, an HGV driving simulator, and even a welding simulator, experiences that gave them a real insight into different roles within the sector.
Alongside these activities, students learned about the many career pathways involved in shaping communities, from planning and design to construction, sustainability, and community engagement. They also explored important challenges such as climate resilience and the future of energy in new developments.
The trip was a fantastic success, with all 15 students thoroughly engaged and enthusiastic throughout the day. It was a valuable opportunity to broaden their horizons and consider future careers they may not have previously explored.

Year 12 Food science pupils visit Cambridge Regional College
Year 12 food science and nutrition pupils visited The Park restaurant at Cambridge regional college last week. They dined in the restaurant and enjoyed a 3 course meal produced by professional catering students. This was a great opportunity for research to support them with their own menu planning ahead of their practical exams. The quality of each course was outstanding and pupils have gained some great tips for presentation of their own dishes.
