Message from our Principal

It’s been a really positive first week back at school this week; Year 11 and 13 have continued with their exams and we are so proud of the hard work they have been putting in.  Year 12 Geographers have spent the week in Snowdonia as part of their A Level fieldwork enjoying both rain and sunshine and exploring the amazing geography that exists in that part of the country.

At this time of year, I know that children are growing out of shoes and blazers and other items of uniform. While we understand that parents may wish to hold off on purchasing new items until closer to the Autumn term, students do need to be in appropriate uniform each day.

If a student forgets an item or, is awaiting delivery of an item, we do ask them to visit our ‘Dress for Success’ room which is on the main corridor, where they can borrow whatever item they are missing. They can visit from 8.15, or they can speak to their Head of Year or SSA at morning welcome to request help with uniform.

New Year 9 Champions

Today, 14 Year 9 students took park in Champion training. This is in preparation for our new year 7 cohort starting in September. The role of a year 9 champion is to support and guide year 7 students through their secondary school journey.

Champions support with:

  • Supporting younger pupils academically and pastorally
  • Leading sessions to support academic success
  • Being a good friend
  • Providing fun activities for younger pupils to participate in
  • Supporting the induction process of new year 7s
  • Extracurricular support
  • Creating a safe space for students
  • Removing the barrier between student:teacher communication

Work Experience Placements

We are seeking work experience placements for a number of our students who are still without opportunities this summer. Our Year 10 students will be on placement during the week beginning 29 June, and our Year 12 students during the week beginning 6 July. If you are able to offer a placement, or know of a business, organisation, or individual who may be willing to support one of our students, we would love to hear from you.  Please contact me if you are able to help Helen.parks@astreastivo.org

Thank you for your continued support.

New student food rooms refurbishment

We are delighted to have shared with you this week that we have secured almost all the funding needed to refurbish our student food rooms. Our current kitchens have certainly served us well over the years, with many parents who once studied here remembering using them themselves.

These are some initial proposed designs for our new kitchens and we are excited to announce these will be ready for September 2026.

We are running house events over a five week period. You can purchase an activity card for £2.50 on MCAS, which can be stamped up to five times.

You may purchase more than one card per student, and each activity will cost one stamp to participate. All proceeds will go directly towards the refurbishment of our new student food rooms.

We are also currently putting together an Amazon wish list, where you will be able to purchase and donate specific items needed for the kitchens. If you would like to make a direct donation towards the food rooms, please email: anthony.ward@astreastivo.org
