A-Level Film Studies (EDUQAS A670QS)
Course Overview
If you have a real enthusiasm for film as an art form, and you are excited by watching, reflecting and analysing films then film studies is the course for you.
The course also offers you the opportunity to become a filmmaker, learning the directors’ craft and producing your own short films and screenplays. In addition, you could apply your skills outside the classroom as a film ambassador or member of Film Club.
You will study a broad range of films: mainstream and independent American cinema from the past and present, British film, global cinema, documentary, experimental and silent film. For the non-exam assessment element (30% of the course) you will study short film making and use this to inform your own work. A-level film studies equips you with both critical thinking skills and creative practical skills. The course works well with English Literature, photography, art, theatre studies and ethics.
You will study:
- Component 1: Varieties of Film and Filmmaking
- Component 2: Global Filmmaking Perspectives
- Component 3: Production

“I loved A-level film – it was hands down my favourite part of school. The teaching, the subject and the people combined to make school feel not just worthwhile but weirdly special.”
