An exciting refurbishment of St Ivo Academy’s sixth form is taking place this summer.
Upon completion, students will be offered a modernised and refreshed centre where they can study A Levels, BTECs, and other vocational courses.
Before the redevelopment was scheduled, St Ivo Academy consulted its school community and released computer-generated images of its plans.
The new centre aims to have more of a “college or university-like feel” while still offering the familiar benefits of the school, including helpful staff and plenty of academic opportunities for students.
There will also be new spaces for sixth formers to socialise and study, offering an enhanced learning environment for the community of St Ives and surrounding areas.
What’s more, St Ivo is guaranteeing students that the courses they choose will run, as long as the school is their first or second choice. It has also streamlined the process for students to study the combinations of subjects they want in September 2025.
Nathan, a Year 13 student at St Ivo Academy, said: “I really like the facilities and sport here. There’s lots of clubs and activities for us in the sixth form and I’ve signed up to some of them. It’s a great way to get involved.
“I’ve already sent off my university application too, and that’s because of all the support I’ve received from teachers.”
Marantha, a Year 12 student, said: “I came to St Ivo Academy from another school because of the range of courses and the support that’s available.
“I like that there are nice quiet spaces for us to study, and then when we’re done, we go upstairs to the common room and chill out on the sofas.”
Annabel, a Year 12 student, said: “I stayed on at St Ivo Academy Sixth Form because I already knew all the teachers and they knew how I like to learn; they’re really adaptable to everyone’s needs. You get lots of support from heads of years too.
“It’s like you’re an independent learner, and it’s really great.”
Tony Meneaugh, principal at St Ivo Academy, said: “I’m really pleased that we’re progressing well with the refurbishment and sixth form offer for our students – both current and prospective ones – and their parents and carers.
“Students at our sixth form do very well, taking up apprenticeships or going on to study at university when they leave.
“Please consider St Ivo as your sixth form choice if you haven’t already. Our vision is for an engaging educational space that prepares our students today and for their futures.”
Rowena Hackwood, CEO for Astrea Academy Trust, added: “This is a really crucial time for us to be investing in St Ivo Academy, and I’m very committed to building an excellent provision for our students, both the present and future ones.
“We know it is essential to ensure that the school has a modernised sixth form that staff, students and the local community can invest in and be really proud of. I’m delighted that we’re able to fund this project.”
