Message from our Principal
I would like to share a serious fire safety reminder which have come from one of our parents, Emma, recently. Just before the Easter holidays, Emma experienced a devastating house fire. Fortunately, no one was hurt, but the house suffered significant damage, and many, many personal possessions were lost. I spoke to Emma in the Easter holiday, and she has asked me to share some information with our school community from an educational perspective of what she has learnt in dealing with the situation on the day and trying to manage the lives of the family since that day.
- Make sure your fire alarms work, check them frequently whether they are mains linked or battery operated.
- Check your fuse box, has it been serviced?
- Do you have House Insurance, does it cover buildings and contents insurance (this has been key in providing housing and support while their house is being re-built)
- Do you know what is plugged in in your house – what is charging? Is your fuse box able to handle the power that all your household and devices needs? This is not always the case in older houses.
Emma wanted to say thank you for the response to the Gofundme page which has been set up and shared on local social media, this has been so important to bridge the gap between the day of the fire and the support coming from the insurance company. She described the support from the local community as lovely and heartwarming and had the highest of praise for the fire service.
Her main request to me was to share her experience and advice around fire safety so that we can all make sure we are safe in our homes.
Talking to Emma certainly made me check on all these things more than I had before, and I hope this is a useful message to get out there.
If you would like more advice on fire safety in the home, please look at Cambridgeshire fire and rescue service, follow this link.
If you would like to donate to the Gofundme, which continues to support Emma and her family, please follow this link . Further details from Emma and about her experience can also be found here.
In school news, Year 11 GCSE exams starting this week in DT, Art and Textiles. These are two day long, 10 hour exams which require real hard work and determination from students to maintain their focus over that length of time – a huge well done to all these students, and the staff who have supported them.
And finally, a shout out to Mr Braybrook who ran the Manchester marathon last weekend, achieving a very strong time of 2.59.32 – which is amazing! Best of luck to anyone who is running the London marathon this weekend.
