St Ivo Academy has joined forces with local primary schools to help support children and communities in Africa through a major uniform donation initiative.

Before the summer holidays, St Ivo Academy coordinated a collection of unclaimed lost property, school uniform and PE kit alongside a number of local primary schools, including Hemingford Grey Primary School, Thorndown Primary School, Holywell Primary School and Wheatfields Primary School.

Working together, the schools donated more than 60 bags and boxes of clothing and sportswear that would otherwise have gone unused. The donations were collected by KitAid, a UK charity that provides sports kit and educational clothing to children and communities across Africa.

While KitAid is best known for distributing donated football kits, this partnership enabled schools across the local community to provide much-needed school uniform to schools in Africa. The charity works directly with trusted partners and charities on the ground, ensuring donations reach the communities where they are needed most. Volunteers carefully sort and prepare the donated items before they are distributed overseas.

KitAid currently works in partnership with organisations including Cambridge University and football clubs across the country, helping to give thousands of items a second life while supporting young people worldwide.

The success of the initiative was made possible by the strong collaboration between St Ivo Academy and its local feeder primary schools. By coming together, the schools were able to make a much greater impact than any could have achieved individually, demonstrating the power of community partnerships and shared values.

All donations were collected by KitAid before the summer break and have already been sorted and packaged ready for distribution. The schools look forward to sharing further updates on the journey of the donated items through their social media channels.

Making a Global Difference

KitAid’s impact continues to grow year on year, with impressive donation figures highlighting the scale of its work:

  • 9,205 items of kit donated in July 2026
  • 88,374 items donated during 2026 so far
  • 1,320,401 items donated since the charity was founded in 1998

Jessica Pearce from St Ivo Academy said:

“We are incredibly proud to have worked alongside our local primary schools on this initiative. By bringing together donations from across our school communities, we have been able to support children and schools in Africa while also ensuring good-quality uniform and PE kit can continue to be used. This project highlights the generosity of our families and the strength of the partnership between St Ivo and our local primary schools.”

The academy would like to thank all participating schools, families and KitAid volunteers for helping make the project such a success.
