Sutton Hoo Success
Our Year 7 students recently enjoyed an inspiring day out in Suffolk, visiting two remarkable sites that bring Britain’s rich past vividly to life: Sutton Hoo and The Longshed.
At Sutton Hoo, pupils stood on the site of one of the most important archaeological discoveries in the UK – the Anglo-Saxon royal burial ground. They learned about the spectacular ship burial believed to belong to an Anglo-Saxon king, uncovered in 1939, and explored how this find reshaped our understanding of early medieval England. They had the opportunity to try on authentic anglo-saxon costumes and see the treasures they discovered during the dig.
The visit continued at The Longshed, where students saw living history in action. This working boatyard is home to a stunning full-size reconstruction of the famous Sutton Hoo ship. Year 7s gained a real sense of the scale and skill involved in Anglo-Saxon shipbuilding. They asked thoughtful questions, tried some ancient techniques, and made links between the past and modern-day techniques. The 27.5m ship is being reconstructed with original materials and methods, hoping to set sail in 2027.

We are currently seeking donations to support our Music Department, with a particular focus on keyboards. If you have a keyboard or any other musical instrument you would like to donate, we would be truly grateful for your support.

For all instances please email Lauren.tomlinson@astreastivo.org or community@astreastivo.org
Thank you in advance!
Sport

Another fantastic performance from the Year 7 Rugby team who secured another win over Abbey College. Lots of standout performances, but a special mention needs to be give to George, Xavier, Oscar and Arlo for their outstanding contribution to the team

Blogs
Thank you to everyone who shared their thoughts on social media this week regarding reading rulers. We’ve listened carefully to your feedback and have decided to begin publishing blogs that explain the choices we make in school and the reasons behind them.
You can find our first blog on reading rulers here: https://www.astreastivo.org/why-tracking-the-reading-in-class-matter/
We kindly ask parents to support us in upholding the school’s behaviour policy, which can be found here. For repeated lack of equipment, students receive a detention if they have forgotten essential items on three out of five school days.
If you believe a detention has been issued in error, please contact the relevant member of the year team. They will be happy to explain how the decision links to the behaviour policy and, where appropriate, support you and your child in resolving the matter. We recognise that mistakes can happen, and our aim is always to work together constructively to help students develop positive habits and take responsibility for their learning.
Arts and Crafts Giveaway Competition – We need your help!
Please collect your tokens and return to us by the 19th December for us to be entered. – Below is what you are looking for.

Glimmer Prom Studio
With prom season fast approaching, I wanted to reach out to let you know about my prom shop, Glimmer Prom Studio which I opened in October 2024 with my daughter, who is a current year 11 student.
Being a mum of three children aged between 10 & 15 years old, I really understand the modern pressures on our girls and the importance on ensuring that they have a positive experience.
At Glimmer we believe prom shopping should be more than just finding the perfect dress — it’s an uplifting, confidence-building experience. That’s why we offer individual, one-to-one appointments that are tailored to each student’s style, comfort, and personality.
With private changing rooms, I make sure all of the girls feel at ease, and was over joyed at the feedback I had from girls and parents following last year’s proms.
Last year the girls bought their grandparents, parents, sisters, best friends, cousins, godmothers… I really try and make it a relaxed appointment for the girls and I care about them having the best body positive experience.
More often than not, the parents couldn’t believe the smile it put on the girls faces transforming them back to playing dressing up when they were younger!
I’d really love it if you could please share the attached poster with your parents and students — either in your newsletter or as a message home. It’s a wonderful way to help your students feel confident, cared for, and ready to shine at prom.
To find out more please visit my Instagram @glimmer_promstudio or phone/whatsapp 07753 690706.
Thank you so much for your time and support — we’d be delighted to help make your students’ prom season a memorable and positive experience.
Kind regards,
Katie & Connie
