Sutton Hoo Trip

A reminder for all parents of Year 7 students that the Sutton Hoo Trip is running on the 13th and 14th of October. A letter was emailed out to you, and you can book this trip on MCAS. Any issues or questions, please get in touch: Jasmin.hart@astreastivo.org

Attendance – Every minute matters!

This week in assembly and tutor period students have been discussing the importance of attendance and the link to future progression.  They have looked at the potential future earnings based on missed education leading to a drop in GCSE grades.  They have also discussed the social impacts and the impact this may have.

Students are all set an individual target of 97%+ for each academic year and it would be great to discuss this with your child.  Remember, great attendance = improved grades, higher potential earning, improved social skills and more time with friends!

Can we remind parent/carers to avoid taking time off in term time for holidays, medical appointments etc.

Attendance matters!

Apology re “scholar”

We have been made aware of a template attendance letter that has been sent out using the word “scholar” throughout. We would like to apologise sincerely for this oversight, for confusion caused, and confirm again that there is no change to the current position, agreed with the PAC, that “student” is the description used at the St Ivo Academy.

Coffee Morning

We will be holding a coffee afternoon for parents of students supported by the SEN Team.  It would be great to see you if you can make 17th October 1:15-2:30.  To book your place, please send an email to: SEND@astreastivo.org

Hello Yellow

On World Mental Health Day (Friday 10th October), St Ivo Academy will be joining in with Hello Yellow, a nationwide initiative by Young Minds to raise awareness of mental health in young people. We’re inviting our whole school community to get involved and “turn St Ivo yellow” for the day:

  • Years 7–11 – Students may accessorise their uniform with one yellow item such as:
    • Hair accessories (no hair dye, please)Yellow socksA yellow scarf
    • A yellow handkerchief (blazer top pocket)
  • Sixth Formers – Encouraged to dress in yellow for the day.
  • Staff – Will also be wearing yellow to show support.
  • Tutor groups – Form tutors and students are encouraged to decorate classrooms in yellow and display mental health work from tutor time activities.

We’ll also be raising money for Young Minds, who do vital work supporting children’s mental health. Donations can be made via our school’s fundraising page:

International Translation Day

This week was International Translation Day!
Some of our incredible EAL students came together to build a powerful message about unity and belonging: we are one community!

Although we couldn’t feature everyone, this video celebrates the voices that make our school so wonderfully diverse. 🌟

See their video here.

Community News

Just released today – at the Town Council we have been working hard on collating all groups and clubs in St Ives into a Youth Directory for our website. From toddler to age 18 including Volunteering opportunities, such as library volunteers, Police Cadets, Young Farmers, Scouting, Girlguiding and Army / RAF Cadets.

It is JUST St Ives Town based only, so you wont see any from Huntingdon etc. It doesn’t include Church stay and plays etc, instead more “formal” groups or hosts like One Leisure or the Family Centre who have lots of classes on and they change all the time so would be tough to keep updated! Hope it helps.
